Kanyakumari District area is locally called as Nanchil Nadu. We have different food culture here, which is mixture of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and even Sri Lanka. The common food in this area are fish and coconut. We have a healthy, different fish receipes. Most of food receipes are made with coconut. I found difficult in finding the Nanchil nadu receipes in Internet. So I decided to post authentic Nanchil nadu receipes here.
Fish - 1/2 kg Coconut - 1 cup Tamarind paste - 1 tblsp Turmeric - 1 tsp Red Chilly - 10 Nos Coriander seed - 1 tblsp Green chilly - 4 Nos Black Pepper - 1/2 tblsp Curry Leaves - 2 Small onion - 5 Nos Salt - as per needed Oil - 2 tsp Mustard - 1 tsp
Preparation: 1. Clean the Fish and keep aside. 2. Grind all these ingredients such as coconut, turmeric, red chilly, coriander seeds, black pepper, curry leaves and small onion finely. 3. Now heat the tawa with oil and splutter the mustard in it. 5. Add the grind ingredients, tamarind paste and some water in it. Now, mix these ingredients equally. 6. Allow to boil. When the boil bubbles appears, put the sliced green chillies and fish in it. 7. Add the salt for taste. 8. Allow to boil until no more water left in the tawa. 9. When it is ready, sprinkle the 1 tsp of coconut oil over it and just mix well
Points to Remember: 1. We have to put fish at the end. Because fish will cook quickly. If we put fish early, then it will overcook and dissolve in it. 2. We can put mango pieces in this dish and avoid tamarind. 3. If we are putting mango, put it with fish. As Mango also cook quickly. 4. Use this dish as a side dish.
